This episode is part of our, “Candid Conversations About Education Series.” Dr. Mshana welcomes proud daughter of parents from Jalisco, Mexico, Maribel Gonzalez. She was born in Los Angeles and raised in the city of Pomona. As a first generation Mexican-American female, all odds were against her. Maribel faced adversity, but she used that as a stepping stone to reach greatness. Maribel became the first person in her family to earn a Master’s Degree. Her education has allowed her to become a successful career woman. Maribel is a recently tenured Professor of Counseling at one of the largest community colleges in the State of California.
By sharing her story, Maribel hopes to inspire others to keep striving towards their dreams. She also hopes to continue healing generational trauma and paving the way for future generations.
